THE PRACTICAL ISSUE OF TIME -

The Seventh Issue.

“To realize God is to dwell in eternity. It is a timeless experience. But spiritual work must be done for the souls who are caught up in the mazes of creation, which is bound by time. Spiritual workers cannot ignore the element of time in creation. To ignore time would be to ignore the spiritual work itself. It is imperative to be discriminatingly aware of the flow of time in creation, . . .” -Meher Baba, Lord Meher, Volume 8, page 2848.

I was staying in a hotel in another part of the country. My schedule was booked straight through each day from eight in the morning until ten at night. For the first several days I had seen clients without a hitch. Two more days remained on my schedule. Most of my appointments last for two hours but sometimes I see clients for a one hour session (or even a half hour) when their needs are specific and it is possible to deal with their requirements quickly. A client driving a good distance from another part of the country, scheduled for a one hour session, showed up for the appointment 30 minutes late. She really needed the whole hour (at the very least) for us to adequately deal with her current situation. Now what to do? If I give her extra time, my schedule is late and greatly inconveniences my other clients. If I don’t give her the extra time, her needs will not be properly met. She had missed the exit from the expressway and had gotten lost. I sympathized with her. Certainly time has immediate impact on all relationships; there are some immediate practical manifestations between astrologers and clients.

In this circumstance my client and I were in an unwinnable situation (a least in the immediate sense). Astrologers ultimately end up with the responsibility for how time is used in this relationship. My snap decision was to do the best with the time we had left. And yes, I did spend a few extra minutes with her and started my next appointment a few minutes late. By midday I was back on schedule. This was a compromise. However, I didn’t feel good about hurrying this client, nor did I like keeping my next client waiting. I expect my clients to be on time. They have a right to expect me to be on time. Today I would not plan my schedule so closely. Through further inspection of the circumstances, I realize that taking a one hour appointment with this client at this time was a bad decision. Being honest with myself, the work she requested required much more time.

This woman had several self-limiting issues. Her chart clearly indicated that she was dealing with the belief, a hidden message in her unconscious, “There isn’t enough. I can’t get what I need.” She felt she didn’t have enough money to come and see me. She would not be able to afford the work with me.
